Organized in March, the annual Elephant Festival of Jaipur is a unique concept. A number of beautifully decorated elephants march gloriously in a large procession that recalls the royal era of Rajasthan and participate in various competitions and events at the time of the Holi. Giant mascots run marathons, and play polo at Chaugan in Jaipur. There are dancers, musicians and a large number of spectators who come here to witness this majestic event. Painted elephants covered with beautiful velvets look great and beautiful at the same time. The procession is accompanied by a lot of noise, with lancers to horses, floats, camels, canyons and palanquins leading their passage. They hold beauty contests for elephants where female elephants compete and are beautified by their "mahouts" (caretakers).
