About 6 km away from Jaipur city centre, the double-storeyed Nahargarh Fort, towering above the ancient horse-shoe-range of surrounding hills has elegant suites with interesting paintings, made with unorthodox combination of colours. Nahargarh means abode of tigers and was built by Jai Singh to bolster the defense of Amer. Originally named Sudarshan Garh, Nahargarh offers incredible views.

The main courtyard of Fort Nahargarh has a pretty baori (well). The most interesting building, the Palace Madhavendra Bhawan was laid in 19th century for the wives of Ram Singh II. You can see its façade adorned with kiosks from Jaipur. The interior, empty of all furniture, has preserved some murals. A maze of corridors, patios and rooms, some of which are pierced with stained-glass windows, surrounds the courtyard. The upper terrace offers a beautiful view of the Pink City.
