Among the attractions of Jaigarh Fort are three-story water storage tanks, a museum, Jaivan, temples and breathtaking views of the city. Located 15 km from Jaipur city, Jaigarh Fort is situated 400 feet above the Amber Fort on the Cheel ka Teela (Eagles' Hill). With two entrances, Dungar Darwaza (in south direction) and Avani Darwaza (in east direction) and spread over 3 sq km area, Jaigarh Fort is home to a developed water harvesting system, indigenous to Rajasthan. The Sagar Pond within the fort has a proper arrangement to collect water. The fort was constructed for the purpose of serving the army. At the highest point of the fort is the Dia Burj, which is situated on about seven storeys. From Dia Burj one gets a panoramic view of the whole city.
The fort also houses Jai Van-the largest canon in Asia, said to be fired only once. The Jaivan is mounted at Dungari Darwaza of the fort. The weight of the cannon is 50 tons. The length of the barrel of Jai Van is 8 meter. It is the most famous cannon among the canons found worldwide. Its size can be gauged by the fact that its shell created a huge crater which later turned into a pond in a village 35 km from the city. Even today, this pond exists and is quenching the thirst of the people of the Chaksu village. To fire Jaivan to hit a target at 35 km distance, 100 kg gun powder was needed. Due to its excessive weight, it was not taken out of the fort nor was it ever used in a battle.
Jaigarh Fort houses a small but well-kept museum, dedicated to displaying the armories of the Rajput soldiers. It also includes swords, shields, guns and oysters. The museum displays photographs, postage stamps etc from the ancient times.
Jaigarh Fort is a very strong fort with huge thick walls made of red sandstones. The fort has several palaces and courtrooms. Dungar Darwaza is the main entrance to the fort. The fort complex has two temples, one is the 10th century Ram Harihar Temple and another is the 12th century Kaal Bhairav Temple.
