Birla Museum is situated near the Birla Temple or Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple located on the top of Arera Hill and offers a splendid sight, overlooking vast areas of the city. It commands a serene atmosphere in the evening. The Birla Mandir or Lakshmi Narayan Temple, if not a breathtaking architecture, offers a beautiful view of the lakes and the old town. It was established on 9th April 1971. There is a collection of ancient archeological statues. It houses very beautiful collections of statues with religious characteristics. They essentially represent Shiva, Vishnu and goddesses. The section devoted to Vishnu shows its many avatars and that of Shiva shows Him often depicted on bas-reliefs recounting his life on Mount Kailash.
It is open for the visitors every day from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. Entry fee for adult is Rs 3.00 and for children Rs 1.50. There is no entry fee for the kids below the age of 5 years. Photography charge for each photo is Rs 15.00. The museum is closed on Monday and gazetted holidays.
