Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid, the white marble mosque topped with gilded spines, was built under the auspices of the first begum of Bhopal, Qudsia in 1837. Situated in the old town, the serenity of the place contrasts with the tingling of the nearby bazaar. It is located in the center of the main bazaar of Bhopal. Smaller than the Taj-Ul-Masjid, it has two large minarets and three domes. Its main attraction is actually inside. One can indeed see magnificent examples of the Islamic architecture of which a series of arches of white alabaster and a very beautiful basin of ablutions.

It is situated in the center of the Chowk Bazaar. The construction could be completed in 24 years. The total expenditure on the construction in those days was Rs. 5 lacs 60 thousand 5 hundred and one plus two aanas and nine paise.

Beside these mosques, Noor Mahal’s Masjid, Zeenatul Masjid, Sufia Mosque, Munshi Hussain khan’s Mosque and Masjid of Quilla Fatehgarh are also places of faith and respect.
