Along the Hill runs Ridge Road, guiding one through gardens and parks down to the brink of the sea. The Kamla Nehru Park, named after Jawaharlal Nehru's wife, with its aquarium and the 'Hanging Gardens', are the ideal places for relaxation in the city. The Hanging Gardens or Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, laid in 1881 atop the reservoir that supplies water to many areas of the city, has hedges trimmed into animal shapes.
On the Hill is an awesome fortification, enclosing the Tower of Silence inside which the Parsees leave their dead—to be consumed by vultures. Needless to say, the Tower is a forbidden area.
