If there’s anything that Mumbai is known mostly for, before other little things got famous, is that it’s the home for Bollywood. It’s truly the city of dreams, where people rise up from the bottom, where true stories are formed and shape is given to one’s imagination. Gazillion of girls, boys, men and women hustle to make it through the big dream. There is also sheer beauty in this struggle, for its truly real, from the heart. With the help of state government, Film City was started in 1977 to provide facilities for shooting. It was started with two studios. The plan was proposed and executed under the guidance of V. Shantaram. Now Film City is spread over 500 acre and consist of 40 outdoor locations, 16 well organized studios, 52 makeup rooms, 12 overnight, 12 dressing rooms. Film city has a noise proof environment for shooting. Film City intends to provide facilities matching international requirements and standards. Film City has been renamed as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagri in 2001 AD to give honor to the legend, recognized as the father of Indian film industry. As the popularity of Bollywood movied spread across globe, the Film City has emerged as one of the coveted tourist attractions in Mumbai.

Outdoor locations include lakes, gardens, and hills etc. topographic locations. Artificial water dam or lake and Khandala Bridge are also attractions of shootings. There are temples, churches, courtrooms, prisons and multiple building for college, hospital, hostel cafeteria restaurants etc. These locations are used according to the requirement of scenes for shooting. There are almost 16 studios in film city spread over an area of 100,000 square feet which are different in size and most of the scenes of movies, serials, advertisements are shot at these studios. These studios are well equipped in terms of facilities like electricity and water supply, air conditioning and many other facilities. Many Bollywood Film City tours, depending upon the duration, are conducted regularly. A visit to Film City offers one an opportunity to have peep into complexity of movie production.
