Haji Ali Dargah

Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai, is a tomb cum mosque of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. It is located islet coast of Worli in southern-most part of Mumbai. Dargah was constructed in 1431 in the memory of Hazi Ali. Haji Ali was a sufi saint from Uzbekistan. Hazi Ali was a merchant who gave up his luxury life before the pilgrimage to Mecca. Starting his travel from Bukhara, he ended it in Mumbai. After settling in Mumbai he used to spread the novel wisdom of Islam to the people who regularly visited him. He had a wish that he didn’t want to be buried at some proper place or in graveyard. He said his followers to leave his shroud in the ocean, and where it will be stop he should be buried at that place. His followers obeyed his wish and hence ‘dargah’ was built in the middle of Arabian Sea where the shroud stopped near a small mound of rocks.
