Dargah is spread over an area of 4500 square meters and was constructed in Indo Islamic architecture style. A central mosque is situated in the middle of a
courtyard. The tomb in the mosque is covered by a brocaded red and green sheet. Pillars of main hall are decorated with mirrors of blue, yellow and green
color. This decoration represents the ninety nine names of Allah. There are separate rooms for prayer for ladies and gents. Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan
and Bhumata Brigade launched a movement for the right of pray for women. In 2016 the Mumbai High Court has given its judgement that women can enter the
Dargah to pray.
Dargah was upgraded many times in terms of structure. The recent renovation was in 2008 AD in which the Dargah was modified using marble of Makrana,
Rajasthan. Along with being one of the tourist attractions in Mumbai, it is a pilgrimage site for the Muslims. On Thursday and Friday, it is visited
by a large number of pilgrims. Famous Bollywood song “Piya Hazi Ali” is filmed in Hazi Ali Dargah itself.
The Dargah is linked with the nearest shoreline of Mumbai by a causeway of length about 1 kilometer. As the Dargah is in the middle of sea hence its reachability depends much on tides of sea. And it is reachable during low tides only. One can reach Dargah easily by train. The nearest stations are Mahalakshmi station, Byculla station and Mumbai central station. Central station is just at a distance of about 3 kilometers. In addition to train, Dargah is reachable by air and sea too. Dargah is just 20 kilometer away from Mumbai airport and Dargah is near to the Worli sea link, so one can go hiring some water transport.
There are many places to visit in Mumbai nearby Haji Ali Dargah. Gateway of India is at a distance of about 8 km from the Dargah.
Marine Drive and Juhu Beach are nearby. Ancient and artistic monument Mahakali caves are close to the ‘dargah’ and it’s a feast to the eyes. Siddhivinayak Temple & Mani Bhavan
can also be visited from this place. Mani Bhawan, a musem, displays various things related to the life of Mahatma Gandhi such as Charkha, books etc.
