Day 1

Arrival at Mumbai

Mumbai, the commercial capital of India and gateway of India, is a prime port and tourist destination. Most of international flights delight at night. On arrival at Mumbai, you will be received by our representative and taken to pre-booked Mumbai hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2

Mumbai sightseeing tour

Mumbai, the trade and commerce centre of India, has a lot to offer to travellers of all kinds. And nothing is better than exploring Mumbai with a tour guide and traversing the crowded thoroughfares in an air-conditioned car. It allows a traveller to get into the most hidden nooks and corners of a place and find what they like. Mumbai is known for its liveliness and surprises for a traveller that turn up at every step. Having taken delicious breakfast in Mumbai hotel, early morning, along with tour guide, proceed for visiting Elephanta cave temples. Arrival at Udaipur from Mumbai

On arrival at Maharana Pratap airport of Udaipur, you will be greeted & assisted by our representative. You will be cordially greeted and escorted to Udaipur hotel. Your smooth and hassle-free check in at the hotel will be facilitated by our representative. Spend the day at leisure. Late afternoon, proceed for Sajjan Garh Palace, built by and named after Sajjan Singh, 72nd Maharana of Mewar (Sisodiya) dynasty. Sajjan Garh Palace is also called Monsoon Palace as it was built to watch and experience Monsoon clouds. Udaipur sightseeing tour

Udaipur- Kumbhalgarh-Ranakpur- Jodhpur

Have relaxed breakfast in Udaipur hotel and proceed for Jodhpur. On the way to Jodhpur, you will be taken two exotic historical and cultural places of Rajasthan- Kumbhalgarh Fort Palace complex and Ranakpur Jain Temple. The first stop is Kumbhalgarh. Kumbhalgarh Fort was built, enlarged and fortified by Rana Kumbha in 15th century. Nestled among thirteen peaks of Aravali mountain, Kumbhalgarh Fort houses another fort of ancient Indian Maurayan dynasty. Having seen Kumbhalgarh, proceed for Ranakpur, a renowned Jain pilgrimage. Ranakpur is one of the most famous Jain temples of Rajasthan, India. Be it the intricate carvings adorning the marble walls, pillars, and ceilings of the ancient Jain temple, taking a walk in a nearby village, going for a safari to Bera or visiting the Kumbhalgarh Fort, Ranakpur provides ample opportunities for the keen traveller. Also visit the Clock Tower, the Umaid Bhawan Palace & Museum, the Jaswant Thada – the royal cenotaph memorial and other tourist spots. Old market, known as Sadar Bazaar, is a prime tourist attraction for those who are interested in ethnic and handicraft articles. Mehrangarh Fort is prime tourist attraction of Jodhpur and Rajasthan. Day 7

Jodhpur –Osian- Jaisalmer

Have scrumptious breakfast at the hotel and then drive to the city of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. En-route visit Osian. Osian was on old ‘Silk Route’ and was well developed during medieval times. Osian (60 Kms from Jodhpur) ,located on Jaisalmer road and surrounded with sand dunes, is a small ancient village that has Vaishnav and Jain temples built during 8th to 11th century. These temples depict the architectural tenets and art of significant old era. Jodhpur is a prominent tourist destination of India due to several historical monuments destinations nearby Jodhpur. Jaisalmer- Nagaur

You will have to depart a bit early in the morning from Jaisalmer to reach Nagaur in the afternoon. Jaipur forts & palaces tour

Jaipur had been capital of the kingdom of Kachhwaha Rajputs who built mammoth, beautiful and highly militarized forts. There are three prominent forts of Jaipur- Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort. For a tourist, Amber Fort is a must see tourist attraction. A ‘Maharaja-like’ ride on the back of a caparisoned elephant from bottom of the hill to the hilltop where the main gateway of Amber Fort lies attracts the visitors. No doubt it imparts a lifetime experience of India. The elephant rides are conducted during morning hours. During peak season, a long queue can be seen in front of booking counter. Therefore, today you will have to move early in the morning for sightseeing of famous forts and palaces of Jaipur. Amber Fort is representative of rich heritage, royal past, glorious history and refined craftsmanship of Kachhawaha clan and kingdom. Construction of Amber Fort was started by Man Singh-I in 1592 and completed by Jai singh-I, Amber Fort is a refined constellation of pavilions, palaces, corridors etc. After Amber Fort, you will be driven to another fortress, still in possession of the Jaipur royalty, Jaigarh Fort. Jaigarh Fort is famous for first arms foundry by a Hindu king, world’s largest canon- Jaivana, a nicely maintained museum of armours and excellent water harvesting and storage system. The third famous fort of Jaipur is Nahargarh Fort. Now-a-days, this fort is in shambles but having seen its remnants and interior of few place rooms, one can easily conjecture the kind of grandeur this fort used to possess. Day 13

Jaipur –Abhaneri- Fatehpur Sikri- Agra

Today, you will be moving to Agra- the land of most cherished monument of India- Taj Mahal. It will be a bit leisurely drive and sightseeing. It will be taking you to hinterlands of two states of India- Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh. On the way to Agra, you will be taken to a very famous but relatively less visited and hence less touristic with originality intact historical site of Abhaneri in Dausa district of Rajasthan. Abhaneri was one called Abha Nagari and was capital of Gurjar king Mihir Bhoj. Abhaneri has remnants of some exquisitely sculptured temples and statues. Harshat Mata Temple of Abhaneri is still in good condition. But the main attraction of Abhaneri is Chand Baori which nicely preserved, still in working condition. This village tour will present before you ancient lineage of India in terms of cultural values, architectural gems and traditional rural lifestyle in villages of India.

Having seen rich cultural and historical lineage of Rajasthan, drive to Agra. About 38 kms prior Agra is a deserted or ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri. Sikri was a small non-descript village. Mughal king Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri as second capital but due to paucity of drinking water, he had to put down the plan to shift population to Sikri. Since then, Fatehpur Sikri is a deserted town with royal buildings serving no purpose other than present day tourist attraction. The famous monuments of Fatehpur Sikri include Buland Darwaja, Jodhabai Palace, Salim Chishti Shrine and Jama Masjid. After visiting Fatehpur Sikri, continue your drive to Agra. Agra Sightseeing

Every traveller in India from abroad has Taj Mahal on top of his wish list. Taj Mahal is India’s most visited monument. Built of Makrana white marbles, Taj Mahal changes its shades as the sunrays vary in colours during a day. The visitors have noticed that that Taj Mahal looks extremely beautiful at the time of sunrise. Keeping in view this fact and penchant wish of the tourists to visit Taj Mahal during dawn hours, we ensure that you visit Taj Mahal along with Agra tour guide at the desired moment. On the bank of River Yamuna, Taj Mahal was constructed in 22 years with the help of 22000 labourers and 1000 elephants. Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor, constructed it in 1631 in the fond memory of her beloved queen Mumtaj Mahal. Taj Mahal, a tomb, is built in classical Persian ‘Charbagh’ style.

The Tomb of It-Mad-ud-Daula, popularly known as Baby Taj, is the first tomb built of white marble. Made in the memory of Ghias Beg, father of Noor Jahan, the tomb has facades composed of three arches with beautiful trellis screens, so delicately carved that they appear to be made of ivory. Hereinafter, visit Akbar’s tomb at Sikandara, a five storied pyramidal shape mausoleum. This mausoleum represents a unique departure from Islamic tomb architecture by not having any domed roof. But it incorporates a remarkable Persian architectural feature of Charbagh.

Agra – Gwalior -Gwalior sightseeing- Orchha

Have delicious breakfast in Agra hotel while viewing beautiful Taj bathed in golden sunlight and then depart for Gwalior, a historical city in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior, on border of Rajasthan, U.P. and M.P. is a strategically located fortress and came into existence in 8th century AD. The Gwalior kingdom has been great protector and facilitators of warrior kings, poets, musicians, and saints. Prime attractions to be explored in Gwalior are Gwalior Fort, Tomb of Tansen, Jai Vilas Palace and Museum, Gujari Mahal, Saas Bahu Temple and Man Mandir Palace. Orchha sightseeing - Khajuraho

After having delicious breakfast in Orchha hotel, move along with Orchha tour guide to visit Fort Palace Complex of Orchha. Orchha is a medieval legacy in stone. Legacy of brave Bundela rulers, Orchha is testimony to fighting spirits, gallant history and grand architecture. Among the famous monuments are Fort, Raja Ram Temple, Rani Parveen Palace,Jahangir Place and numerous ‘chhatris’ (cenatophs). After sightseeing of Orchha, a village town, have lunch in a nice restaurant situated on the banks of river Betwa, an idyllic set up. The 580 km river Betwa originates in the Vindhyas, meanders across Madhya Pradesh—through picturesque Orchha – and meets the Yamuna near Hamirpur. In the 16th century, Rudrapratap, a Bundela king, chose a stretch of land along the Betwa’s bank to be his capital. With the famed ‘chhatris’ (cenotaphs) of Orchha in the background, the river looks like a bed of gold bathed in the morning sun. As one stands on the narrow bridge across the river or on the boulders in and around the water’s edge, the reflection of the ‘chhatris’ in the water is a wondrous sight. The river has a heady pace, so you can also raft along and pass the ancient city and the shrubbery-rich banks around it.

Khajuraho - Varanasi (by flight)- Sarnath tour

Having taken delicious breakfast in Khajuraho hotel, along with Khajuraho tour guide, you will be taken to view world famous Khajuraho temples. Watch your imagination come alive at Khajuraho. Listen closely, you can hear the ping of sculptor’s chisel on the exquisite stone creations in the temples of Khajuraho. And marvel at the stones that breathe with an inner life, century after century. Out of 85 temples built by Chandela rulers, only 20 temples are remaining these days. Built in classical ‘Nagar’ style of temple architecture, temples of Khajuraho, especially Western & Eastern groups of temples, ooze passion, eroticism, dance and music and other finesses of creative arts depicted in sculpture and images of the temples. Sculptural brilliance of Khajuraho temples is more evidently visible in erotic statues. Today you are going into serene yet ceremonious lap of Mother Ganga- the Ganges. What can you say about possibly the most famous river in Indian subcontinent? The 2525 km long river has influenced religion, commerce and creative pursuits. It creates one of the most fertile and densely-populated regions in the world, yet manages to hold its own in the hustle of humans. From Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, the Ganga represents numerous opportunities to catch its many hues. From completely forested settings that begin above Rishikesh and go as high as Gomukh, it has seemingly breathed life into every rock. The river begins as the Bhagirathi at Gomukh, at the foot of Gangotri glacier. The Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet at Devprayag, giving birth to the Ganga. As you travel downstream, the views in Varanasi are unbelievably serene and have a larger than life appearance. Here, the river seems as large as a lake, with centuries of history all around. Further downstream, at the ‘Sangam’ at Allahabad—where the Ganga meets the Yamuna and the legendary underground river Saraswati—the colours of the water go from blue to green to a wintery grey. Then at Hoogly in West Bengal, the river expands into an ocean, without letting go of its image as a giver of life, alive with motion.

Varanasi exploration

The third day in Varanasi, the cultural capital of India and one of the holiest pilgrimages of the Hindus, is reserved for leisure and exploration of historical and pilgrimage city and its culture at your pace and discretion. As an India travel consultant, we suggest you to visit Ram Nagar Fort. It’s an important day of Best of India Tour. People gather in Varanasi to explore subtle as well as pronounced aspects of Hindu (Indian) culture. Enjoy performing and observing religious Hindu rituals. Day 20

Varanasi -Aurangabad (by air)

Having taken delicious breakfast, proceed for Varanasi airport to catch up the Air India flight for Aurangabad. Aurangabad, though in its own right a historical city, happens to be the most convenient base for visiting world heritage sites of Ajanta & Ellora. On arrival at Aurangabad, you will be received and transferred to Aurangabad hotel for overnight stay.

Day 21

Ajanta & Ellora sightseeing

After breakfast at Aurangabad hotel, move to visit Ellora cave temples as well. The Ellora cave temples, regarded as the World heritage sites of India, are situated just 30 kms northwest of Aurangabad & easily accessible. The 34 cave temples & chapels of Ellora, dedicated to Brahmanism, Jainism and Buddhism, date back from 600 to 1000 AD. The cave temples here have some superior carvings on the stone depicting the legends related to Lord Shiva.

After visiting Ellora temples, move for Ajanta along with Ajanta tour guide to visit Ajanta cave temples. Ajanta cave temples are about 100 kms from Aurangabad. It takes about 2½ hrs to reach Ajanta. Great specimens of historical and architectural marvels, Ajanta Caves are world heritage. There are more thatn 30 rock cut cave chaityas of the Buddhists, dating from 200 BC to 650 AD, depicting the stories related to Lord Buddha. Having seen Ajanta and Ellora cave temples, return to Aurangabad hotel for overnight stay.

Aurangabad-Trivendrum (by air)- Kovalam

After breakfast in Aurangabad hotel, check out from the hotel and proceed to Aurangabad airport to board the flight for Trivendrum (Thiruananthapuram), the capital city of Kerala. Trivendrum boasts of having world famous beaches of Kovalam. On arrival at Trivendrum airport, you will be transferred to Kovalam beach resort/ hotel amidst serene, a bit secluded and palm-fringed locales.

Day 25

Kovalam-Alleppey

Having taken delicious breakfast in Kovalam hotel, proceed to Alleppey, famous for its backwaters. On arrival at Alleppey, check-in at air-conditioned deluxe houseboat. Houseboat cruise is the best way to explore the beauty of backwaters. Set out on an enchanting overnight backwater cruise in traditionally decorated houseboats. Check in time is 01:00 PM and cruise starts with lunch. While cruising in these floating luxury-villas, let your eyes settle for the rare and the unusual – skim past Chinese fishing nets, bowed-down paddy fields, and local inhabitants engaged in making coir products, rustic homes, and ancient temples and swaying coconut groves. Kumarakom- Cochin - Departure

After breakfast in the houseboat, move for Cochin, known as the ‘Queen of Arabian Sea’. Optima Travels representative will receive you. Along with Cochin tour guide visit Jewish Synagogue (built in 1568 AD, remains closed on Saturdays & Jewish holidays), Dutch Palace (built in 1557 AD, remains closed on Fridays & National Holidays),Kochi Fort, St. Francis Church (Built by the Portuguese in 1503 AD), Santa Cruz Cathedral and Chinese Fishing Nets. After sightseeing, move for market place of Cochin, known worldwide for spices since centuries. Late afternoon, you will be transferred to Cochin airport to board flight for either Mumbai or New Delhi, depending upon your return plan.
