Kovalam is a land of natural polyphony and centre of beach holidays and tourism in Kerala . Kovalam, a small and beautiful village, is known for its pristine beach spots throughout the world. Kovalam is 16 km from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. Traditionally, it was a fishing village, but due to the colonial intervention, it has emerged as the main tourist destination of India. Kovalam has three arc-shaped beaches separated by the rocky mountains. The largest beach is known as Light House Beach due to its 35 meters high lighthouse, located on Kurumkal mound. The second largest is Hawah Beach. And the third one is Samudra Beach which is famous among the local fishermen of Kovalam. The beaches of Kovalam are the main centers of attraction. Besides the beaches other attractions at Kovalam include Anchuthengu Fort, Napier Museum, Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Kuthiramalika Palace Museum. This destination is an ideal place for water sports enthusiasts where one can enjoy several water sports like kayaking, swimming, surfing and skiing. Besides the beaches, one can visit Ayurvedic treatment centers which offer a number of massages and Ayurvedic treatments. These centers are the perfect places for the rejuvenation of body & mind. The picturesque coast of Kovalam in Kerala can be visited all year round but the best time to spend a holiday in Kovalam is from September to March.
