Kovalam is 16 km from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. Traditionally, it was a fishing village, but due to the colonial intervention, it has emerged as the main tourist destination of India. Kovalam has three arc-shaped beaches separated by the rocky mountains. The largest beach is known as Light House Beach due to its 35 meters high lighthouse, located on Kurumkal mound.
