Uttarakhand, the mystical Land of Ganga and Yamuna, is a Himalayan state of India. Earlier known as Uttranchal, Uttarakhand is known as the land of Gods (Dev Bhumi). From pilgrimages to skiing, Uttarkhand is known for tourism. There are so many not-to-be-missed tourist destinations in Uttarakhand. Come and visit Dehradun. Dehradun, the capital city, is located in Doon Valley and is nestled in between two rivers – the Ganges on the east and the Yamuna on the west. The city is known for its scenic landscape and pleasant weather. It is the gateway to Mussoorie, Nainital, Haridwar and Rishikesh. There is occasional snowfall in January. There are various adventure sports like trekking, paragliding, skiing and water sports.

Wildlife tourism can be enjoyed in Uttarakhand. See the beauty of Corbett National Park. Established in 1936, it was known as Hailey National Park. Post independence, the park was named as Ramganga National Park. In 1956, the park was renamed after conversationalist Jim Corbett. The national park attracts thousands of tourists each year. Due to its location in Himalayan base land and various streams that flow through the park, it supports diverse vegetation and is a home to wide range of animals. The peak season to visit is April to June and November and December.

Be at Mussoorie. Mussoorie is one of the best hill stations in Uttarkhand. It is a perfect weekend getaway for people from cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, and Shimla. Owing to its lush green hills, different flora and fauna and the magnificent view of Himalayas attract both domestic and international each year. Throughout the year, Mussoorie has a pleasant climate. During spring, the town is extremely beautiful with flowers and trees. The peak season is April to June and from September to November.

Visit the pilgrimage of Badrinath. Badrinath is one of the famous pilgrimages of Char Dham. Nar and Narayana mountain ranges and the Nilkantha Peak surround Badrinath. Badrinath is well known for its mythical significance. It is the site where Nara and Narayana, the dual forms of Vishnu, did meditation. This town is also mentioned in ancient texts and scriptures. It is advised to avoid Badrinath in monsoon months due to the heavy rainfall and landslides. The temple remains closed from November to April.

Get lost in the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand. Nestled at an altitude of 3600 meters, the valley is known for its meadow of native flowers and snow-capped peaks. The quaint landscape complements the rocky mountains of Nanda Devi National Park. It is believed that Hanuman found the herb Sanjeevani in the Valley of Flowers in the epic Ramanaya. In 1982, the Valley of Flowers was declared a National Park and is listed as one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2004. The peak season to visit is from late July to early September. It is inaccessible after November to April.

Enjoy the adventure in Rishikesh. Rishikesh, the holy capital, is now known as the Yoga capital of the world. It attracts huge number of tourists and pilgrims from around the world. It is famous for the adventure sports like mountain biking, bungee jumping and white water rafting. The best time to do white water rafting is from March to May. The important pilgrimage sites in Rishikesh are Triveni Ghat, Neel Kanth Mahadev and Bharat Mandir.

Visit the god’s gate – Haridwar. The religious city of Uttarakhand is Haridwar district. Haridwar means Gateway to God and is one of the seven holiest places. Haridwar is the place where Kumbh Mela, which takes place once in every 12 years, is celebrated on the banks of the Ganges. The other important festivals celebrated in Haridwar are Baisakhi, Kanwar Mela, Somwati Amavasya and Kartik Purnima. The best time to visit Haridwar is from October to April.

Get mesmerized with the beauty of nature in Nainital. Nainital is well known for picturesque view and is known as the Lake District of India. Mountains on three sides surround it and Nainital is around the Naini Lake. Naini Lake is famous for its boating and yatching. Horse riding, skating, golf and rock climbing are also common activities in Nainital. The hill station receives snowfall during winter.

The whole state of Uttarakhand provides a panoramic view of the Himalayan range. It is best vacation destination during summer from April to June and to enjoy snowfall from October to December.
