Major tourist attraction of Srinagar

Dal Lake is one of the largest lakes in the world. It is located 1775 m above sea level near Tota Rani. It is considered as the crown jewel of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. The lake is a major tourist attraction in Srinagar and known for many leisure activities. The lake is also used for many commercial uses such as fishing, cultivating aquatic plants etc. The coastline of Dal Lake is honored by many gardens of the Mughal era, barges, hotels and many beautiful parks. During winter season, the temperature dips to -11 degrees Celsius. Owing to the decreased temperature level, the water freezes. Dal Lake is home to several floating gardens. These floating gardens of lotus flower are called "Rad”. Dal Lake happens to be the most alluring attraction for a visitor in Srinagar. Floating houseboats & ‘shikaras’ on Dal Lake attract travelers’ attention. Shikaras are used as a means of getting back & forth from the houseboats. Unlike the muddy -coloured snow-waters of the Jhelum, those of Dal Lake are crystal clear, being fed by springs. The evening cocktails on the upper deck, with the sunset glow over the unbelievably opalescent, surrealistic landscape are incredibly grand scale —yet snug and homely.
