Rajasthan International Folk Festival

Rajasthan is a state that proudly preserves and practises its centuries-old rich heritage of diverse cultures & traditions. Jodhpur is famously considered to be the ‘Festival Capital of Rajasthan’ as there are various festivals held throughout the year. One of the prestigious festivals is Jodhpur Rajasthan International Folk Festival.The festival is a unique idea to bring all forms of folk culture together under one platform. It also encourages the international bands and performers to present their talents so as to spread awareness of the same. Large number of tourists gathers to witness unique culture & beautiful traditions during the famous Rajasthan festival.

The first Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) was held in 2007 to showcase the exotic traditions of the state. From then on, the event has become an annual festival in Jodhpur. The festival is held in the famous Mehrangarh Fort which has been voted as Asia’s Best Fortress by Time Magazine. The famous Rajasthan Festival is sponsored by both national as well as international trusts. Two Indian heritage trusts - Mehrangarh Museum Trust and Jaipur Virasat Foundation; and international patron Rolling Stones play pivotal role in its organization and success. This festival has recently been endorsed as the “People’s Platform for Creativity and Sustainable Development” by UNESCO.

This International Folk Festival goes on for 5 consecutive days and presents the best performers from across the globe. It is held during the auspicious time of ‘Sharad Purnima’, making it a cultural-cum-religious event. Folklores & cultural heritage of Rajasthan are main attractions. The Jodhpur RIFF begets new talents. The festival opens with a dance performance representing the true culture of Rajasthan. More than 250 musicians and dancers participate & contribute to the entertainment. Musicians, dancers and other artists perform in the evening whereas morning time is allotted to the school children who are brought to perform to encourage talent from young age.

The first day of the Rajasthan International Folk Festival, Jodhpur has been allotted to the foreign music, dance & circus performers. The next two days are majorly allotted for the cultural events of Indian performers. It is expected to include poetry & drama descriptions, music performances, folk dances, martial art performances etc.
