The entrance to the lake is through a beautiful artistically carved yellow sandstone gateway that arches across the road down to the lake and is called the ‘Tilon ki Pol’. The Tilon Ki Pol, also known as Tilon ki Gate, was built by a royal courtesan named Tilon, in the 19th century. The lake is also surrounded by number of shrines & temples, the most famous one being the Krishna temple, which is said to also have a statue of Lord Vishnu. During the winter season, visiting Gadsisar Lake imparts even more gorgeous experience of spotting migratory birds from Bharatpur bird sanctuary, flying over & around the big domed pavilion in the centre of the lake. The lake opens up early in the morning and welcomes whoever wishes to visit till about sunset, close to 6 PM. Although this calm, beautiful, green lake can be visited any time, it is most serene, peaceful and gorgeous in the early mornings. One can also get a good glance of the sunrise and the lake makes a spot to photograph the Jaisalmer Fort, shining bright with the first rays of sunlight.
