The Cathedral of Goa, also known as Cathedral of Santa Catarina, is one of the constituent elements of the religious group of Churches and Convents of Goa and seat of the
archdiocese of Goa and Daman. Considered to be the largest church built by the Portuguese around the world, it is a clear proof of Portugal's desire for the discoveries to
impress the world. It took more than 50 years to complete its construction. The architectural style is of Mannerist inspiration, as was typical in the Portuguese religious
buildings of the time. A storm destroyed the right tower in 1766 that was never rebuilt. The interior is stunningly beautiful. The gilded altarpiece of the altar houses an
image of St. Catherine of Alexandria to whom the church is dedicated. In the lateral ships, there are altars to other saints and the baptismal font of century XVI was used
by San Francisco Xavier.
