How to Reach Haridwar

Thousands of Hindu pilgrims and tourists reach Haridwar daily for doing worship, ‘puja’, ‘darshan’ and performing religious rituals. The city is home to ‘gurukuls’ for learning of Sanskrit scriptures and ‘Ayurveda’. Haridwar is associated with both Lord Vishnu & Lord Shiva. It is one of the seven sacred cities of India. Haridwar is situated on the right bank of the holy Ganga and is the point where the river spills over the northern plain. It is also one of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela held in its magnitude every twelfth year. Essentially a religious center which holds the promise of salvation for devotees, it is also a center of herbal medicines and traditional studies at Gurukul Kangri. Main temples of interest are Chandi Devi Temple , Bharat Mata Temple , Shantikunj, Maya Devi Temple and Pawan Dham. Har-ki-Pauri is the most important ghat on the Ganga river, where a holy dip is a must for a devotee. The Ganga Aarti performed every evening is a spectacular sight when thousands of lighted lamps are set afloat the river.
