On the walls are displayed heads and skins of animals and specimens of Indian arms. Another hall contains three cases of coins and some Indian paintings. The third hall is devoted mainly to Indian art objects, metal work, papier-mache, pictures and specimens of calligraphy. The fourth hall contains ancient sculptures, small antiquities and old guns. In another hall is a medley of exhibits, birds' skins, firearms, skis, pathological models in wax of disfiguring skin diseases such as smallpox, large models of the fly and mosquito, birds, huqqas, textiles, glass ware, pottery, cheap jewellery and ornaments, white China figures, and a model of an engine, etc. Allahabad Museum boasts of displaying some forty pictures by Nicholas Roerich, the Russian painter and pacifist. Out of these forty photographs, 13 are originals. Lectures are occasionally given in the reading room of the museum by school teachers.
Though Allahabad Museum houses treasure of sculptures, paintings, handicrafts, ancient artefacts etc but its prime attraction is pistol of Chandrashekhar Azad. There are two galleries - Gandhi gallery & Nehru gallery – depicting India’s Freedom Struggle and contributions of the two towering personalities of the contemporary era. The Allahabad Museum has a special gallery showing articles received by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Besides his private collection, it contains various types of presents and gifts received by him in his capacity as the Prime Minister. One of the major attractions in the museum is the Gandhi Smriti Vahan. This vehicle was employed to carry the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi to the Triveni Sangam. Collection of sculptures, artefacts, coins, terracottas, paintings, weapons etc belonging to Harappan civilization, Mauryan Empire and Gupta dynasty attract a large number of tourists to Allahabad Museum.
