An inscription transcribed the last words of Gandhi, whispered just before his death: "Hey Rama" or "Oh God."
The enclosure of the memorial is fortified. It is amidst a sprawling lawn. If you visit on Friday, you attend an exhibition of photographs and sculptures depicting Gandhi's life. Raj Ghat is a beautiful space designed by Alick Percy-Lancaster, last English manager to deal with horticulture department in the Indian government. In the same neighborhood, you can also see other monuments dedicated to the missing Indian personalities.
Next to the Raj Ghat you find a park with trees planted by dignitaries and heads of state visiting. : US President Dwight Eisenhower, Ho Chi Minh and Queen Elizabeth II.
Raj Ghat , where Mahatma Gandhi is commemorated, lies a short distance to the south. International leaders, including Eisenhower and Ho Chi Minh, have made pilgrimages to Raj Ghat and planted trees, which are labelled with their names. Beneath a footbridge, a path leads to the enclosed garden, created to mark where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated and where his monument now stands. A simple, black marble platform indicates the precise site of the cremation; it bears the single Hindi word Rama(God), and a flame burns continuously in a lamp at its head. Every Friday, the day on which Gandhi was killed ,a ceremony takes place here during which offering (puja) are made to his memory,
