Built in 1326 by Mahammad Tughlaq, at Khirki, near the present day Malaviya Nagar and close to the vestiges of Jahanpanah, the fourth Delhi, this mosque
looks like a rugged fortification with bastions at the four corners. The perforated windows on the upper floor, called the Khirkis, have given the mosque as well as
its surrounding area their names.
