193 km from Patna, Sasararn is on the main railway line; connecting Delhi and Kolkata. Here is to be seen one of the finest buildings of medieval India, the mausoleum of Sher Shah.
Son of a chieftain, Sher Shah was the emperor of India from A .D. 1539 to 1545. He was a highly constructive administrator. He had planned the mausoleum himself and had executed the construction barring only the last touches which were given by his son.
The mausoleum stands amidst an artificial lake, the hills in the distant horizon forming an excellent background for the monuments, with its reflection in the water adding to its grandeur.
