Untold is the importance of the Parashnath Hill to the Jains, for 21 out of the 24 Tirthankaras—the Masters of Jainism-- attained their nirvana here. Situated at a distance of 200 kms from Pawapuri and 8 kms from Giridih, the hill which derives its name Parashnath, the 23rd Tirthankara, rises steep above the plains of Dhanbad to a height of 1,365 metres.
The hill-top, with the temples in the sylvan setting, is a charming spot.
The path to the hill-top passes through the village Madhuvan from where it is an 11 kms trek. To and fro it takes a full day. There is a Dak Bungalow on the bill.
