The Beatles Ashram is known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram as well. Being located on the banks of the
Holy River Ganga in Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand, it is one of the well-appreciated
places at Rishikesh. Initially, decades back, present-day Beatles Ashram was a place famously known only as ashram where people from across the world came to experience peace by learning Yoga and Meditation under the guidance of famous Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Now this place has turned to Beatles Ashram for tourists. It’s really interesting to know how the word ‘Beatles’ got placed before the word ‘Ashram’? Before February 1968, this place was managed by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, one of the best yoga gurus that India ever had. He conducted the first Transcendental Meditation TTC (Teacher Training Course) in Rishikesh in 1961. According to history, his entire life was spent to train over 40,000 teachers and 5 million people. In 1968, the Beatles went to Rishikesh to learn Transcendental Meditation (TM) course to attain peace. On that peaceful environment, the Beatles wrote many songs which gave this place a name of Beatles Ashram. Moreover, at that time, due to some legal issues, in 1997, this famous ashram got deserted and recently on 8 December 2015, it was reopened and turned as a tourist place. Moreover, this is an amazing place to explore, especially if you are a painting lover. You can get a chance to explore paintings of the famous spiritual leader Dalai Lama as well. In brief, all the paintings available there are painted by the different artists of the world under the community The Beatles Cathedral Gallery.
