In the closeness of the nature they get experience solemn peace. Covered with natural scenes, this memorable and enchanting tourist place is located in the Hoshangabad district. Situated on the pleasant rocks of the Satpura Mountains, it is 1067m above sea level. The word Panchmarhi means “Five Small Huts” which are still present in the form of five caves. It is a saying that the Pandavas had spent one year of their exile of twelve years in these caves. The discovery of Panchmarhi as a centre of healthy climate was done by J. Forsyth. He saw Panchmarhi for the first time as a leader of the armed force, sent by the old route from Narsinghpur, now known as Mahadeo Sadak. He visited Panchmarhi just after the First War of Independence in 1857, with a view to present a description of this place. The tourist sports of Panchmarhi enchant the viewers.

Travel to Panchmarhi can be very interesting, if you will visit its cave shelters in the Mahadeo Hills. These cave shelters have the archaeological treasure shaped rock paintings that are supposed to be placed in the 500-800 AD period. Some of the paintings here are supposed to be 10,000 years old. There are several other attractions in Panchmarhi that have been transformed into a famous place by the famous British rule officer, Captain Forsyth. His idea was to make this place a popular tourist destination that offers amazing excursion opportunities to visitors.

Panchmarhi also provides a great opportunity for lovers of flora and fauna, who wants to enjoy the incredible views of dense forest, covered in mist and discover wild animals like tigers, panther, elephant, etc. Panchmarhi is located in the Panchmarhi Biosphere Reserve, created in 1999 to link two forest reserves in a large protected area of flora and fauna. This area has a very rich and rare flora and fauna, so many tourists come here every year to satiate their strong desire to explore the exotic desert of Panchmarhi.
