It is a saying that the Pandavas had spent one year of their exile of twelve years in these caves. The discovery of Panchmarhi as a centre of healthy climate was done by J. Forsyth. He saw Panchmarhi for the first time as a leader of the armed force, sent by the old route from Narsinghpur, now known as Mahadeo Sadak.
