How to Reach Manali

Lying on the right bank of river Beas, Manali, a hill resort in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, holds prominence on tourism map of world for its breathtaking beauty and serenity. It is located in Pir Panjal range of the western Himalayas at 2500 meter above sea level. For long Manali and nearby valley have been favorite destination for the avid trekkers and mountaineers but has grown recently as a leisure destination solely dependent on nature. The destination’s popularity can be understood by the fact that Manali receives second highest number of tourists in Himachal after Shimla. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, established in 1961 AD in Manali, imparted tourism a major boost. Tourism in Manali gained further momentum after Islamic terrorism soared in Jammu & Kashmir. Manali emerged as the best option for the tourists who identified it with Kashmir with its snow clad mountains, Rohtang Pass & Solang Valley. Various adventure activities like trekking, white water rafting, paragliding, skiing, heli-skiing, mountaineering, heli-tours, angling, etc provide lot of options in addition to sightseeing of temples, monasteries, orchards etc to the tourists.

Reach Manali by Flight: Manali is a town in Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. There is an airport, Kullu Manali Airport, in Bhuntar in Kullu. Frequent flights from New Delhi and Chandigarh connect Kullu with rest of India. All major airlines like Air India, Spice Jet, Indigo etc. operate regular flights to Kullu. On arrival at Kullu Manali Airport, a tourist can board private pre-paid taxi or a public transport to be taken to Manali, 51 kilometer from Bhuntar.

Reach Manali by Train: There is no railway station in Manali. The mountainous topography are not suitable to laying train tracks. The nearest railheads to Manali are Chandigarh (315 km) or Pathankot (290 km). So, a traveler can reach either of these railway stations by train and from there can opt for a bus or taxi for the onward journey.

Reach Manali by Road: Manali is connected by good motor-able roads with Chandigarh, New Delhi , Dehradun, Ambala, Kullu, Shimla, Dharamshala and other regions of Himachal Pradesh & India. Manali can be accessed from various cities by car, taxi and buses. For comfortable journey by public transport, Volvo buses should be opted.
