It was under Narashimha’s reigns that these were created and have been seen around ever since. There are also flanks with ‘dwarapalas’ (guardians) sculpted on them. It is said that the ‘dwarapalas’ help understanding the nature of the temple. With the way they are decorated, the legends say, one set of dwarapalas have been dedicated to Shiva and the other are probably dedicated to Lord Brahma.
One of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Mahishasurmardini Cave Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, is mentioned as ‘Atyantakama Pallavesvara-griham’ in Pallav era treatise.
