If you’re traveling with kids and family, there are a lot of activities you could try. There’s kite surfing, boat rides, wind surfing. To notch it up a bit, if you have sometime in your hand and a fire within to learn something new, then there’s a Surf school called MUMU Surf School about a kilometer from beach, they teach surfing and help with little tips & tricks. They have courses that stretch for days and it’s said that the waves and the current at the beach is just about perfect to surf along!
If you’re someone who enjoys solitude and nature, then walk along and catch the turtles for company! There’s a little cafe along the beach called ‘Surf’. This cafe organizes the turtle walks. The idea is to walk along the shores and release the turtles back into their safe space in the water. It certainly is a very exciting and magical little exercise on your beach vacation. And of course, if your idea is to just lay back in the warm sun with a book in one hand and coconut water in the other, then the beach is perfect to do just that too! The sea welcomes each one, and lets us be however we’d like & that’s the best thing about being in nature.
If you ask around and speak with the local fishermen, you’d be lucky to get a ride on their boats and try your hand at deep-sea angling. They can also help with arranging sea cruises in the country crafts.
After having relaxed at the beach, if you’d like to venture out, there’s a crocodile farm that is about 15 kms from the beach. There are varied species of alligators and crocodiles kept in open pools. There’s also a snake farm at the site where they produce anti-venom. The entire process of extracting the snake venom is something worth witnessing.
Although, it’s always a good idea to visit a beach and let the vitamin ‘sea’ be your cure, the most suited time to be at the Mahabalipuram beach is between the months of November & February. That is also when the ‘Mahabalipuram Dance Festival’ takes place, which can be enjoyed from the beach.
