Fort Bharatpur, with solid packed mud walls is surrounded by deep uncrossable moats. The fort is popularly known as "Loha Garh" or the Iron Fort. The fort has two gates; The gate to the south is called Chowbhurja and the other clash north is called the Ashtdhatu gate. A number of buildings and palaces are placed inside the fort. One of the palaces known as Kamrakhas with a large Durbar Hall is a place for tourist interest. Jawahar Burj is a Victory Tower and was erected in the year 1765 AD, celebrating victory over the Imperial city of Delhi. The remains of the old mud wall, the moats encircling the fort and the eight bastions that once provided strength to the fort, are still there. Other constructions of tourist interest in the city include the Laxman temple, Gana temple and Moti Mahal.
When to visit Bharatpur?
The best time to travel to Bharatpur is from September to February as the weather is pleasant and the migratory birds arrive at the sanctuary in large numbers. Summers are too hot and monsoons too wet.
