Kurnool has been ancient centre of Buddhism and Jainism. Geologically and historically famous Belum Caves evince proofs of pre-Buddhist habitation since
4500 BC. Later, these caves were occupied by Buddhist and Jain monks centuries ago. Centuries old many Buddhist relics had been found inside the Belum Caves. These relics
are now housed in Museum at Ananthapur.
