Prayagraj is also steeped into rich history. You will be welcomed and received at Prayagraj airport / railway station by representative of Optima Travels and transferred to hotel / camp (tented accommodation). The Kumbh Mela is celebrated in the four cities where according to tradition the drops of ‘Amrita’ - the elixir of immortality - have fallen: Prayagraj,
Ujjain,
Haridwar and Nasik. Kumbh Mela will takes place on the Triveni Sangam of Prayagraj, the confluence point of three sacred rivers: the Ganga, the Yamuna and the invisible Sarasvati. The Sangam is a huge expanse of sand; really huge.
Main bathing dates of Prayagraj Kumbh Mela are Makar Sankranti (First Shahi Snan), Paush Purnima, Mauni Amavasya (Main Royal Bath-2nd shahi Snan), Vasant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan), Maghi Purnima and Maha Shivratri. Spend rest of the day in leisure and have overnight stay therein.
Day 2
Kumbh Mela
Though Kumbh Melas take place in four cities of India but the most accredited and magnanimous is Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Culture, traditions, rituals, socio-religious practices and underlying Sanatana Dharma or Hindu ethos can be seen and experienced in its most colorful and lively form. After breakfast, sally out to explore innumerable aspects of Hindu culture. A temporary city crops up on the wide banks of the Ganga. The vast expanse is filled with camps of different sets of people and populations: military and police camps are the most extensive, surveillance is widespread; afterwards there are the camps that host the various saints & ‘sadhus’ (hermits), some real ashrams, where the "head" Sadhu settles with his retinue and receives the pilgrims with their offerings, dispenses blessings and teachings. The Naga sadhu, the most spectacular because of being naked ones with religiously codified behavior, live more secluded and are more difficult to approach. The crowd is a river of colors that descends smiling towards the ghat where bathing rituals takes place. The holy dip in the Sangam is performed for complete purification. In the evening, the Sangam is spectacular. The crowd descends towards the illuminated Sangam. They carry out Ganga Arti ritual, the fire ceremony. The devotees softly rest a minuscule boat-shaped leaf carrying a duly lit earthen lamp. The pilgrims offer flowers, fruits and leaves as reverence to Mother Ganga.
Hanuman Temple,
Allahabad Fort &
Patalpuri Temple can also be visited. Later in the evening, return to the camp / hotel for leisure and overnight stay.
