It is an intimate and wood lined theatre that hosts a lot of live performances along with courses for people to learn. It is a centre focused towards keeping the arts and art forms of Kerala live. The performances of Kerala Kathakali Center in Cochin are also shown on popular channels like BBC, Discovery and National Geographic. A lot of people from around the world visit the centre to view the quality dance performances. The dancers of the centre have also gone overseas to perform and entertain the audience.
Primarily Kathakali dance shows are held in this centre. The shows are held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and attended by a large number of visitors from across the globe as the quality of the dance shows of Kathakali Center in Cochin is par excellence. Though there are many places in Kochi where Kathakali dance is performed but the center is considered the best among them. It is located in the Fort Cochin, one of the most popular places of the city. This is also a reason why a lot of people find it convenient to come here. It is near Santa Cruz Basilica. The centre also hosts Kathakali dance classes for the interested people to learn. In addition to Kathakali (Kathakali Dance, Kathakali Music, & Kathakali Make-Up), the center runs regular training programs of Kalaripayattu, Classical Dances (Bharathanatyam, Kutchipudi and Mhohiniyattam), and Classical Music [Vocal – Karnatic & Hindustani & Instrumental - Drum (Chenda), Madalam, Tabala, Gingira, Mrudungam, Violin, Veena, Sitar, Flute].
The price of the dance classes starts from INR 650 per person. Along with the dance classes, a lot of courses are carried out in the Kathakali Center like Kalaripayattu from 4 PM, classical music performances from 8 PM to 9 PM - Sunday to Friday, and traditional dance performance on every Saturday at 8 PM. Along with all these beautiful performances, the centre also carries out early morning Yoga sessions charging INR 400 and meditation sessions for INR 250. They have three programs each evening for the whole of the year.
