Bolgatty Palace, located on Bolgatty Island & connected with mainland Kochi by a bridge, is known for its magnanimity, sophistication and elegance. Kochi (Cochin), a historical and commercial city, is a delightful tourist destination in Kerala. Being on a vacation in Cochin ensures the most relaxed days of a visitor’s life. The port city blessed with beautiful islands, serene beaches and some gorgeous architecture to explore and photograph while spending days in leisure in Kochi. Bolgatty Palace is one of the top rated tourist attractions in Cochin. Kochi had been ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch & British in the past. Hence, the city still has enough influence and traces of European cultures. The Bolgatty Palace was built by the Dutch. It is located in Bolgatty island of Mulavukad Panchayat. Bolgatty Palace is unique because it is one of the oldest Dutch palaces in the world except the one in Holland (Netherland). The Dutch traders constructed this quaint building in 1744 AD. After construction, Bolgatty Palace was extended and gardens were added around it. Before the mansion was released to the British in 1909 AD, this building was used as governor’s palace for commander of Dutch Malabar. The British too utilized the mansion for the same purpose as the Dutch had employed it for.

Post Independence of India, Bolgatty Palace finally came under India’s control and was, then, converted into a heritage resort under the auspices of Kerala Tourism Department Corporation (KTDC). Now a premium resort, Bolgatty Palace is a preferred lodge for the couples and honeymooners. It has an Ayurvedic spa, a swimming pool, a temple of Lord Shiva and a 9 holes golf course. The island resort has main block, mansion block that has palace rooms, and marina block, facing the marina. A unique thing about marina is its capacity to host up to 34 yachts having water, electricity and sewage pump facilities. Marina block of Bolgatty Palace is exquisitely gorgeous with a view of the marina on one side and a view of the golf-course on the other. Along with these parts of the mansion, there are six lake view cottages in the resort. Kathakali, a classical dance of Kerala, performances are held inside the resort for entertainment of the tourists. The heritage and structures of Bolgatty Island and Palace have been well protected, embodying Dutch influence, and the cultural legacy of the Dutch has been kept intact in an Indian way. Bolgatty Palace was though built by the Dutch but British and Indian control over the years resulted in slight revamping. As a result, now a heritage resort, Bolgatty Palace turns out to be an exotic amalgam of Dutch, British and Indian architectural finesse.

The resort has some amazing palatial rooms with the most modern amenities for tourists to enjoy at its best. The heritage resort, Bolgatty Palace, also known as honeymooners’ paradise, is located in a beautiful lush green ambiance. The vibe of staying at the island in a resort in the lap of nature enjoying all modern amenities is the best feeling of life ever. There is also a Bolgatty Event Centre which is known for hosting a lot of International conferences, exhibitions, conventions and wedding functions. The event centre, located amidst the backwaters, Cochin sea port, Arabian Sea and Vallarpadam container terminal, makes it a gorgeous location for hosting different kinds of events and making it more special.

Bolgatty Palace resort is provided with facilities of library, lawn, golf-course, Ayurvedic therapies, boat jetty, angling, hammocks, mini bar, boating cruises and internet browsing. The entertainment things to try out are bird watching, golfing, Ayurveda wellness programme, fishing activities, walk by the beach and island, shopping, local sightseeing around, boating, enjoying traditional and cultural dance forms and visiting the culture centres. While staying at the resort, the tourists can also go ahead to explore other places nearby like Wellington Island, Fort Kochi, Synagogue & Jew Town and Durbar Hall Gallery.

It would be a splendid way to spend ones holidays at this heritage resort. The couples should definitely book a room in this heritage hotel to enjoy the best days of their life and have a splendid holiday.

It is located at about 6 km from Ernakulum and at about 33 km from Cochin airport. The rates of the palace resort keep depending upon the room availability, peak seasons, and the different kind of palace suites.
