Rana Kumbha Palace

The ruined edifice of great historical and architectural interest, Rana Kumbha Palace is the most massive monument in the fort of Chittaur. These are the first monuments in ruins one sees. They go by Maharana Kumbha's name not because he had built them, but because he had reconditioned and expanded them. While constructing the houses, attention had gone more to the defense needs than to luxurious living. Intricate underground labyrinths and tunnels have been found, one of which is believed to have been extended to a far off spot, though now blocked.

The palace is supposed to have underground cellars where Rani Padmini and other women have committed Jauhar. In one of these underground halls, now what remains is a room-like part of it, Rani Padmini had committed Johar.
