The Legend
The story goes like this the greatest warrior of Mahabharat’s time Arjuna, who was in exile from his kingdom spent time in Dwarika with his mentor and friend Shree Krishna, who was the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. During stay in Dwarika, the capital of Sree Krishna, Arjun got attracted towards Subhadra, the sister of Shree Krishna and fall in love with her. But unfortunately the elder brother Balram of Krishna decided to marry Subhadra to his disciple Duryodhan, who was a haughty and tynat prince. Duryodhana was a sworn enemy of Pandvas, therefore Krishna asked Arjun to run away with her to avoid the ire of Balram.
Arjun and Subhadra mounted on the chariot and departed from Dwarika. They traveled non-stop for three nights and two days the lengths of Western Indian, constantly followed by Balram's army. When they reached this valley where the Bhadrajun village is placed today, they found it perfectly camouflaged from the outside world and the perfect hiding place as at that time this valley had no inhabitant. Thus it was safe to stay and take some rest. The fled couple stayed in this valley and got married with the help of a priest (purohit). After marrying in Bhadrajun, they settled there only. Arjun cleared of the place of the wild and dangerous animals. The place became safe for human habitation. Later, after some time, people began to settle in this valley and then this village was named as Subhadra-Arjun to commemorate the divine union of goddess Subhadra and Lord Krishna and later with the course of time shortened to Bhadrajun.
