We know the city of Ujjain for the large number of temples and religious sites and it is also a
very important travel destination in the state of Madhya Pradesh, which fascinates its tourists
with its religious significance. Though the Hindu devotees keep arriving in Ujjain throughout the
year but during festivals related to Lord Shiva worship, a great surge of pilgrims’ arrival is

Visiting Ujjain during Winter Season: Winter season commences from October and continues
till March. The weather during winter season in Ujjain remains pleasant and windy with
temperature hovering around 20⁰C in day time. The climate remains conducive for leisurely
exploration of temples, historical monuments, markets etc. Woolen clothes will be required in
December and January. In October, November, February & March, warm clothes will be
required only in late evening. Therefore, the best time to visit Ujjain is the winter season.
Visiting Ujjain during Monsoon Season: Monsoon season or the rainy season in Ujjain starts
from July and continues till September end. Heavy spell of rainfall is primarily observed in
August. Though the humidity level remains high but the climate gets cooler to explore the city.
The temperature in Monsoon season varies between 30⁰C and 21⁰C. The Shravan month of
Hindu calendar is synonymous with rainy season and Lord Shiva is worshipped. Kanwadiyas
keep thronging at Mahakaleshwar Temple to pray the deity. The devotees in large number reach
Ujjain on foot and drenched in the soothing shower.
Visiting Ujjain during Summer Season: April, May & June are the months of summer season
in Ujjain. Summer is characterized by scorching heat with temperature rising up to 45⁰C.
Exposure to the hot wind, called ‘Loo’ in local parlance, during summer season should be
avoided as it may make one fall sick. This is the off season from touristic point of view. The
room tariffs of the hotels remain at their lowest and, therefore, these months are most suited for
the budget travelers.
