The very famous Bagore Ki Haveli was was built by Amar Chand Badwa in the 18th century. He was the Prime Minister of the Mewar kingdom during the reign of four ‘maharanas’ of Udaipur- Raj Singh II, Ari Singh, Maharana Pratap Singh II, and Hamir Singh. It was a huge time period from 1751 to 1778. After the death of the Prime Minister of the Mewar dynasty, this haveli was taken over by the Mewar royal family. Nath Singh, a relative of Maharana of that time started staying at Bagore ki Haveli and made this place his residence. It is known as Bagore ki Haveli because Maharaja Shakti Singh of Bagore made a triple arched gateway and extended the haveli in 1878. Till the time of Indian Independence, the Mewar family had the possession of this haveli. Post that, the Givernment of Rajasthan acquired this property and started housing the government employees in the place. It was in 1986 that the government handed over the haveli for the restoration work to the West Zone Culture Centre. Before that, it was quite neglected in all means. This cultural centre is responsible to turn this haveli into a very beautiful museum and they have enriched the Udaipur’s treasure a bit more through this. The old architectural style of the haveli was retained and also the restoration was done using the traditional skills. All these were done with the consultation of the royal family members. Lakhori bricks and the lime mortar were the traditional materials used for the restoration purposes. The windows, doors, and the perforated screens were repaired. The ones that had been damaged enough were replaced. The existing murals were however preserved.

It is a gorgeous and huge haveli that stands on the waterfront of Lake Pichhola at the Gangotri Ghat. It is now one of the famous tourist attractions in Udaipur. It It has been restored over the period of time and now finally converted into a museum for the public. The architecture of the Bagore ki Haveli is a treat to the architecture lovers. Skillful craftsmanship is employed throughout the construction of this haveli. There are huge courtyards, jharokhas, balconies, decorative archways, fountain, and cupolas in the haveli. This is the typical Mewar styled haveli. The interiors of the haveli are heavily done with a lot of mirror work. The haveli has 138 rooms in total which is a lot. Each and every wall of the haveli is beautifully done with murals and mirror works. The chambers of the royal ladies of that time speak next level of craftsmanship as well. Exploring these chambers of the royal ladies is a must. These chambers are mainly famous for the glass windows, beautifully & attractively coloured. One major thing that would attract the eyes of the visitors is a pair of peacocks made with coloured glass mosaics. The haveli has three ‘chowks’ (squares) and those are named as Neem Chowk, Kuan Chowk, and Tulsi Chowk. The museum of Bagore ki Haveli is divided into five sections, namely, haveli museum, puppet museum, turbans section, weapon section, and wedding section. The most famous attraction of Bagore ki Haveli is the Dharohar Dance Show which is conducted in the evenings around 7 pm. It takes places at the Neem Chowk. A very well arrangement is done for the people to view this culturally rich dance performance. This show has a set of dance performances like the Chari Dance, Tehra Tal Dance, Gorbandh Dance, Rajasthani puppet show, Ghumar Dance, and Bhavani Dance. Bagore ki Haveli is totally open for the general public to explore. It is open on all days of the week from Sunday to Monday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. The entry fee depends on a lot of factors and hence there are different charges for people. Rs 60 pp is the entry for the domestic adult, Rs 30 pp is for the domestic kids, Rs 100 pp for the foreign adult, Rs 50 pp for the foreign kid, and Rs 50 extra for the camera. Similarly, there are varied price charges for the Dharohar Dance performances.
