How to Reach Modhera

Modhera is popular for its temple of the Sun built in 11th century. The Temple was built by King Bhimdev I in 1026-27 AD. Located near a small village in a barren steppe, Modhera is far from everything, but going there is not a problem. The village of Modhera is located about 106 km north-west of Ahmedabad. Modhera was a very important site formerly. Today, Modhera is practically a desert hamlet. Much more off the beaten track and much less well known than the Konark Sun Temple, Modhera retains much of its atmosphere and charm. Modhera is known for the 11th century Sun Temple. In January, Modhera is also the venue for the three-day dance festival.

The best way is to get there from Ahmedabad or to consider Modhera as a stopover between Mount Abu (190 km) and Ahmedabad. Modhera can be reached by road from Ahmedabad (106 kms/ 3 hrs), Gandhinagar (90 kms/ 02 hrs), Baroda (Vadodara- 215 kms/ 4 hrs) and Patan (35 kms/ 01 hr). Almost all the visitors prefer to travel to Modhera by taxi.

There is no railway station in Modhera. Among the nearest railway stations are Baroda (Vadodara) and Ahmedabad. So, first, one has to reach these major cities by train and then by road to Modhera.

The nearest airport to Madhora is Ahmedabad. After arrival at Ahmedabad by air, one needs to travel to Modhera by road.
