The tour of the bazaars will occupy a good part of your walk in old Jaipur. Despite the deafening horn concerts that punctuate the everyday life of modern India, the buzzing alleyways of the old city have preserved the magic of the past. Jaipur Bazaars Day Tour will be a real introduction with Jaipur – market, culture and hidden architectural gems in the form of frescoed mansions. This day trip of Jaipur and its old market will be certainly a feast to the eyes.
You will be picked up from your place of stay (Jaipur hotel) at the stipulated time. The Jaipur Bazaars Day Tour will commence from Johari Bazar (the jewelers' bazaar), the main street on the right, arriving at the crossroads of the Hawa Mahal (Bari Chaupar) from the City Palace. There are still many jewelery stalls, mixed with textile and confectionery shops. These confectionary shops sell consumer items that are popular with the Rajasthan bourgeoisie, as evidenced by their superfluous kilos. At the top left of the avenue, a terrace on the edge of a small temple offers a great view, especially in the morning, on the Hawa Mahal ... and the hustle and bustle of the crossroads. The first lane to the right of the avenue is still closed to auto-rickshaws & scooters.
This picturesque set of shops displays wonderful displays of saris and salwar-kameez (tunics). The Jama Masjid mosque (on the right side, 200 m after the crossroads) is of secondary interest, despite its beautiful pink facade and its minarets. Situated in a predominantly Hindu neighborhood, it nevertheless testifies to the relative harmony prevailing between the various communities.
Along with guide, venture into the alleys adjoining Johari Bazar. It is the location of pleasant havelis, often hidden behind crumbling walls. Some of these beautiful mansions have preserved mural paintings, unfortunately damaged. Their owners do not seem to care about these decorative details.
Then come back on the main avenue, towards the junction that precedes the City Palace (Chhoti Chaupar). At the corner of the avenue towards the north (Gangauri Bazaar), two small Vishnu temples show beautiful frescoes evoking the leelas / adventures of Lord Krishna. Before entering the temple, you will have to leave your shoes at the entrance to the courtyard. Go further in Gangauri Bazar for about 300 m, until Saras Sadan Haveli is reached. Distorted by an ugly fence, the courtyard of this beautiful house built in the late XIX th century by Ram Singh II, opens on a luxury craft store. Do not hesitate to enter to admire the murals decorated with gilding (free entry).
