Chitrakut is one of the most religious places of Madhya Pradesh. The word Chitrakut is synthesis of two words - Chitra and Kut. The description of the significance of Chitrakut has been given by the great poet Kalidas, author of the Puranas- Saint Ved Vyas, ancient saint & poet Tulsi Das and Muslim Poet Abdur Rahim Khankhana in their writings. It is said that Lord Rama had spent here eleven and a half years of his exile of 14 years. This place is the centre of attraction for Hindu tourists.

Chitrakut is located in Satna District, on the Jhansi-Manikpur railway line. The main place in Chitrakut is Sitapur which is 8 Km. away from Karwi. Temple and ghats are worth-seeing places in Chitrakut. The natural beauty of this place is also worth watching. Among the prime tourist attractions are Kamadgiri, Bharat Milap, Ramghat, Janaki Kund, Sati Anusuiya Ashram, Sphatic Rock, Bharat Koop and Hanuman Dhara etc.
