Light and Sound Show at Amber Fort

Amber Fort is one of the major attractions of Jaipur. Amber town is spread over an area of 4 square kilometers and at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur.  Town Amber was mainly built by Meenas (a tribe mainly found in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh regions of India).  Amber was founded by Raja Alan Singh, a ruler of Meenas, in 967 AD but the major part of the fort was built in 1599 by Raja Man Singh, Kachhwaha King of Amber. Amber Fort Palace complex is popular for its style of Hindu and Rajput art. It is surrounded by large rampart and numerous gates. Amber Fort Palace complex is constructed using red sandstone and marble. It is near to ‘Maota Lake’ and located at ‘Cheel ka Teela’(hill of eagles)  on Arawali range of hills. The Amber Fort Palace complex and Jaigarh Fort are considered one complex, as both are connected by an underground tunnel. This tunnel was used an exit during the war time and move to indomitable Jaigarh Fort. In 2013, the fort was declared as UNESCO World Heritage site. The artistic and affluent Amber Fort Palace complex has four levels and each level consist of a courtyard. These levels are Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Sheeshmahal  & Sukhniwas. Diwan-e-Aam was designed for the gathering of public audience. It was built by Mirza Raja Jai Singh after Man Singh. Diwan-e-Khas was designed for the gathering of private audience. Sheeshmahal has a beautiful architecture with having an elegant mirrored ceiling. In Sukhniwas, the temperature is maintained artificially by using wind that flow over a water fount. The other attractions of the palace are: magic flower, Tripolia Gate, lion gate.

The duration of Light and Sound show at Amber Fort Palace complex is of 50 minutes. During this duration the complex is showcased with light effect on it. Magnificent voice of Amitabh Bachhan is used for the narration of history related to this fort. Documentary is used in between to describe the history and development of Amber Fort Palace complex. This was the golden time of Indian Rajputs before Mughals. The entry of invaders is narrated and war among Rajputs and Mughal invaders described. The show also gives a glimpse of music, culture, art, literature and life style in between the description of the history. It also describes the compromises and wars among different Rajputs and Mughals & gives a brief of Babar, Akbar, Jahangir, Mirza Raja Jai Singh, Savai Jai Singh & Shivaji. As the eminence and prowess of Rajputs brought relatively tranquil ambience, the capital of Kachhwaha Rajputs was shifted to Jaipur and Amber became empty. With this emptiness Amber has seen the freedom struggle and, after the democracy in India, in1954, Amber Fort Palace complex was opened for public. The show ends with a song describing the pride of Rajasthan.

Opening Days: Amber fort is open for all days of the year.

Timing of the Show: The show is held in two languages: first in English and second in English. Timing of the light and sound show has some variations in different months, as follows:

In the months from October to February timing is 6:30 pm onwards

In the months from March to April timing is 7 pm onward

In the months from May to September timing is 7:30 pm onward

Timings of Hindi Show:

In the months from October to February timing is 7:30 pm onwards

In the months from March to April timing is 8 pm onwards

In the months from May to September timing is 8:30 pm onwards
