Trivandrum-the original name of which is Thiru-Ananta-Puram-the Sacred Eternal City (according to another interpretation, the city of the Holy Serpent, Ananta), is the capital of Kerala. Population, according to 1981 census is 5,19,766. Trivandrum is a beautiful city built on seven hills. The pagoda-style tiled roofs show the Far-Eastern architectural influence. The Padmanabhaswami temple, the famous temple in the city, however, is built in the Dravidian style. Trivandrum is not only on the air map, but also is directly linked with Chennai by railways. Also, buses ply to the city from all important towns of the south.

It was in 2012, Thiruvananthapuram was declared as the best city to stay according to India's survey. Until 1991, the city of Thiruvananthapuram was famous by the name Trivandrum, as named by the British. However after 1991, the name of the city changed to Thiruvananthapuram. The city got its name from the idol residing at the Sri Padmanabha Swamy Ananta Temple.

Situated in the extreme southwest of India, Trivandrum region is surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west and Tamil Nadu in the East. The city of Trivandrum has a wide coastline with world-famous beaches, rivers and many historical sites, evidence of a rich cultural heritage.
